Summer is Almost Here

I am so looking forward to moving to my happy place.  It's just around the corner now.  "The Secret" is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased health and happiness. Well, I'm putting this picture out there.  I've been looking forward to practicing my yoga on my dock.  I've always wanted to previously, but did not have the dedication.  Now that I am exercising daily it is calling to me. The warm sun shining down on me while while praciticing will be heavenly.  Yoga at sunset might be amazing too, but I usually enjoy the sunset with a nice glass of wine and my camera.

Clean Eating

My quest for a healthy life continues to go well.  We traveled to the Dominican for the March Break and for the first time, ever, I lost weight while on vacation.  I worked out, I meditated and I ate mindfully.  Who'd a thunk it....it actually worked!  I've been trying to incorporate more vegetarian meals.  Truth be told I probably have at least 5 vegetarian dinners per week.  Tonight, while my family had turkey tacos, I chose to have this killer salad.

Mixed salad greens with roasted sweet potato, avocado, shallots, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds with a homemade apple balsamic vinaigrette.  YUMM-O!

28 Days

So I finished my yoga today crying. Not because I was sad, but because I was proud. 28 days in a row. I've never exercised this many consecutive days. Also, I was able to achieve poses that knocked me on my ass all month! Today I finally achieved it. What a strong feeling! I am determined to change my health from the inside. We are leaving today for our vacation. I packed sneakers and exercise clothes. Another first! Wish me luck :)

21 Days to Make a Change

So I now have 21 days into my journey. They say it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Lets hope I've made it! I've now did Yoga and Meditation for 21 days in a row! This is a huge accomplishment for me. I even brought my stuff with me to the Lake. I've even got up early before appointments to be sure I got my "zen time" in. Yup, that shocked my hubby!
Cheers to change and better health.

School House Rocks Live

Tonight we finally got to witness the WMS's performance of School House Rock Live.  The kids have been working super hard for months now.  It was a standing O at the end of the night.  It was lively, energetic and so much fun.

I guess I'm one of the only ones who actually remembers watching little blurbs of this on Saturday mornings when I was a kid.  They used to play a song in between cartoons.  I remembered quite a few of the songs.
The kids really did work so hard on this production and it showed.
What a joy to watch your child shine on stage.  She really did have a great time!   Congratulations on a job well done T!  xoxo

Head Full of Ideas

Wow!  I have a head full of ideas running around right in my head right now.  I want to start another painting, but I have some "real" work that needs to get done before we go away.  I know if I start I won't want to stop...seems to be what happens when I paint.  The thing is I have a foggy brain so I really hope I don't forget my ideas. LOL

In Search of My Zen

I took advantage of a service that is available in our community. Mental Health has free acupuncture sessions available to those who wish give it a try. I have had acupuncture in the past and had a great experience with it. The only downside was that I had to travel a bit more than an hour to get to those appointments. Taking 3 hours out of my day each week was a pain in the butt and I didn't continue. You know how it is, there is always something else I could or should be doing. We tend to always put ourselves on the back burner, right?

The picture above shows the 5 points that we received. Once everyone had their needles in, they lowered the lights and served a detox tea. The soft music was on and you remain quiet for about 30 minutes. This is where meditation comes in handy. I had one person sitting near me that doesn't do well with sitting still. She was rocking in her chair, shaking her knees, clearing her throat....I decided to shut my eyes and do a body scan. This is a Meditation Exercise that requires you to be more aware of the movement of energy through each part of your body, you start with your toes, then the base of your foot, your ankle, the calf, and continue on with each part of your body until you reach the top of your head. It helps you to focus and clear the mind.

At the end of the session the 10 needles were removed and we had an option to have a seed placed in our ear at the Shen Men point. Ear acupuncture points may be stimulated for a longer period of time by using ear seeds. Ear seeds are small seeds from the raddish plant. These seeds are held in place on the ear with a small piece of adhesive tape. Ear seeds may be left in the ear for a few days or up to two weeks. Ear tacks are very small needles with an adhesive backing. Ear tacks are inserted into the ear and left in the ear for a few days or up to one week. You can press or stimulate the point with the seed.

Bring on the peace vibe :)

Painting from Earlier this Year

Mixed Media painting completed earlier this year.  Again, it's still not named.  My husband is the one who is creative with words.  Come on Jody, you need to start naming these!  :)

Another Painting

Another painting, or should I say "creation", 'cause I haven't painted it :). I liked the look of it after adding all the base texture. Decided to hang it as is and mull on it for awhile.

This show how I put the middle painting on a piano hinge so I can access my light switches. Love being able to hide them!

Spaghetti Squash Bake

So I made up a recipe today and wanted to share it with you guys because it was a hit. I call it Spaghetti Squash Bake...I had two organic small spaghetti squashes. I baked them and when they were done I cut them on the equator not the length and dished out the seeds. I forked out the squash into a bowl (made about 4 cups of cooked squash), I added 3 Tbsps of Pesto, 3/4 c of dairy free cheese (mozzarella style shreds), 1 Tbsp of Sriracha Garlic Chilli Sauce. I mixed it all together an put an even amount in three 4 inch ramekins (I misted them with olive oil so they wouldn't stick). Then in another bowl I mixed 3 Tbsps of Rice Bread Crumbs, Another 2 Tbsp of the Cheese and about 1 Tbsp of Butternut Squash Oil (But you could use whatever oil). I divided it evenly between the three dishes. I convection baked them at 375 for about 20 minutes or so to let the cheese melt because the squash was still warm. Then I turned on the broiler until the top browned. I made 3 servings and my fitness pall app said it came to 300 calories each serving :) It really was yummy. Gluten Free and Vegan...

Toes in the Sand

It won't be long now and we'll have our toes in the sand.  We finally made a decision on where our Winter vacation will be this year.  Hubby and I could become travel agents after this search.  We scoured over endless resorts trying to find a bit of what all of us want.  Not to big, ocean front, good restaurant selection, nice rooms.  And the winner is Now Larimar in Punta Cana.  So excited...I love our family getaways!

A Room to Create

In keeping with my theme of reinventing myself...I decided to return to painting. Return would be a bit of an exaggeration as I've painted less than ten.  However, I do really enjoy it. My husband was a doll and cleared a room for me to set up my easel and painting supplies.  There is something about the process of deciding what you want to paint and then just allowing your creativity to take control.  Once I start I find I'm obsessed with finishing it.  A good part of that is excitement to see how it all turns out in the end.  I'm really pleased with this one.  It has a ton of texture and I'm very much into gray lately.  Hmmmm....must be my gray period.  I usually leave the naming of the painting to my husband...but he hasn't come up with one yet.  Any suggestions?

Reinventing Oneself

The last several years have moved slowly and other days seems they've been a blur.  My health has not been at it's peak and I've burrowed down into a little hole of self pity due to pain and exhaustion.

Living through this daily is very frustrating.  Especially when those around you really do not understand because the pain and exhaustion are not visible.  You choose to have a more secluded life because it's easier than explaining it again and again.  There are good days where flair ups are not as debilitating.  But the bad days make it difficult to get out of bed.  Frustration can be further increased by a doctors lack of understanding, compassion, or ability to find you solutions that do not include a myriad of drugs.
I am once again trying to turn a new leaf.  I've been speaking with a compound pharmacist who has been accessing my lack of energy and pain.  He has some great suggestions with supplements and has encouraged me to get back to exercise.  I really have been avoiding it due to pain.  I'm happy to say that I've completed 7 days straight of yoga and meditation.  It hasn't been easy by any means.  I've fallen over, cried a couple of times and swore far too much.  But I did it!  This video was a great inspiration to me.  Never, Ever Give Up. Arthur's Inspirational Transformation!  I watched it with tears streaming down my face and said I have to be the change.  I have to do all the things that I feel will work, but together.

Did I also mention that I'm cleansing?  I've given up gluten, no red meat or pork, no sugar, and NO BOOZE.  Now some of it is for one month.  Others will hopefully be indefinitely.  I love bread way too much, but I really think it's killing me...slowly.
